Improving People Performance

employee motivation

[ Behavioural method ]

A low-morale workforce can be a real drag on the fortunes of a business, it is therefore essential that employee motivation within the workforce is kept to a high.

The overt signs of low employee motivation are obvious and costly:  absenteeism costs the UK economy a huge £11.5 bn annually (with average absenteeism rates at over seven days a year per worker); staff turnover (running at 125% in some industries) representing a huge cost in terms of recruitment, training and overtime.

Less immediately visible, but just as pernicious, are the softer effects of poor employee morale. “Disengaged” workers, far from being advocates for their company, talk them down and when their job is customer-facing, are not surprisingly poor at delivering great customer service.

Within each organisation, there is another group (most probably larger than the “disengaged”) who are simply neutral about their company and their job. They will be productive, but are the first to leave if another job appears.

Quo has developed creative and effective new approaches to building employee morale and commitment and reducing disengagement. Our programmes are holistic and sustainable rather than short term and superficial.

Since commitment issues don’t only involve workers in question, but the organisation as a whole, our approach involves management to build morale from the top down. And we put in place reinforcement mechanisms to make sure that morale improvements stick.
